Somewhat pretentious name but this is what I called it at the time! I’ve subsequently learnt to name my pictures with more care and less pretentiousness. This again is a direct interpretation of a spiral panel from the Book of Kells presented by George Bain. This is probably my first attempt at the spiral forms. The big lesson to be learnt when working with spirals is don’t try to copy. It is far easier to construct from new and then adapt as the drawing progresses. Colours are bright in this one as this is where I found my favourite paint to work with – Gouache. This is the medium originally used in the production of the illustrated manuscripts and is good for solid colour.
