11. Charcoal Rock
20th March 2006
Penn’s Weare, Easton, Portland, Dorset

At the end of the first day that I was working here I found that there was quite a bit of charcoal from a camp fire in the past.  I decided that it would be worth an experiment to try and rub the charcoal into the face of a rock to see whether I could make it appear like a hole in the other rocks.  I found that by grinding the charcoal into the rock and using a small amount of water, I could form a kind of paste that made this a lot easier.  The black faced rock didn’t really work that well against the other rocks, but worked much better when contrasted to the background of the sea.
